Vetalar - Companion Animal

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

• Administer 11 to 33 mg per kg body weight to cats by deep intramuscular injection.

PRECAUTIONS:

Vetalar is well tolerated by cats when administered by intramuscular injection. Although best suited to short procedures, additional doses of Vetalar can be administered in order to prolong anaesthesia for periods of six hours or longer. Fasting prior to induction of anaesthesia is not essential; however, withholding food for at least six hours prior to induction is recommended when preparing the animal for elective surgery. As with other anaesthetic agents, an individual’s response to Vetalar may vary according to the general condition and age of the animal as well as the dosage administered. Vetalar is not recommended for use in animals with head injuries, hepatic or renal disfunction, epilepsy or coronary insufficiency. Atropine (0.044 mg/kg) should be administered to control salivation which is stimulated by ketamine in the cat. Occasionally convulsions may occur in cats, but these may be readily controlled with very small doses of sodium thiamylal. Store at room temperature 15-30°C (59-86°F).
